LAW140  A  TAXATION OF BUSINESS ENTITIES

Course Description
This class will cover the basics of the challenging subjects of the taxation of C corps and partnerships. The course will also touch on the tax treatment of S corps. Taking this course is a good idea for any student who has taken federal income tax and who plans to become a business lawyer, because the class will provide students with significant knowledge regarding the taxation of business entities. Taking this course is also a good idea for any student who has taken federal income tax and who is considering becoming a tax lawyer. Students who are already sure they are going to become tax lawyers may proceed to take the 3 credit partnership and corporate tax classes, without having to take this class first. However, this class will provide an introduction to these complex areas of taxation for those students who: (1) do not think they will go on to take more tax classes, or (2) who are not sure they will, or (3) who simply would like some introduction prior to doing so. Students who have already taken either the 3 credit corporate tax class or the 3 credit partnership tax class cannot take this class.
