Spring 2016
LAW537  A  ADVANCED TOPICS IN FAMILY LAW

Course Description
This one week course focuses on the real world practice of family law. There are many misconceptions about what constitutes the practice of family law. This course will highlight both the substantive law, such as the statutory framework, rules of procedure, and leading Supreme Court cases, along with practical examples of what really goes on in family court. The class materials will include the statutes, rules, cases, financial disclosure forms and some controversial rulings by local judges. Students will be graded on a combination of (a) a one to two page submission at the inception of the class(which will also be discussed on the last day of class), (b) class participation, and (c) a question and answer session based on an assignment on the final day of class.

Short Course Attendance Policy
Due to the small number of meetings, attendance to all meetings/classes for short courses is mandatory. Students who miss more than one class session (80 minute) of a 1-credit short course are subject to administrative withdrawal and will have a W for the course on their transcripts.
