Fall 2016
LAW101  A  COMMERCIAL LAW: SECURED TRANSACTIONS

Course Description
You’ve won your first trial; how do you now collect from the defendant? Your client is considering lending to a chain of retail stores; how can you protect your client from the risk of non-payment and/or a bankruptcy filing? These are among the sorts of questions we will address in Commercial Law: Secured Transactions, drawing primarily from Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code, but also from Article 8 of the UCC, the Bankruptcy Code, and applicable state debtor-creditor laws. You will be assigned readings and problems for each class, and we will spend the majority of our class time working through the problem sets. These problems will require us to work through the intricacies of the statutes and, in doing so, allow us to explore the public policy issues behind them.
