Spring 2017
LAW157  A  INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY FOR BUSINESS LAWYERS

Course Description
This course will cover aspects of intellectual property law that affect a wide variety of businesses. We will spend a substantial amount of time on trade secret law, which is the body of law regulating most kinds of commercially-relevant information. We will also spend some time considering basic principles of trademark, copyright, and patent law, with an emphasis on (1) the kinds of things that can be protected by each of the regimes, (2) the ways that each body of law interacts with the others; and (3) the differences in the scope of protection that each offers.

Please note that this course is designed to complement basic courses in copyright, trademark, and patent law. Students can therefore take this class and any or all of those three in any order or combination.
