Spring 2017
LAW106  B  TRUSTS & ESTATES

Course Description
This course provides an introduction to: lifetime management of property (revocable trusts and other instruments), planning for incapacity, disposition of property at death (intestacy, wills, will substitutes, and trusts), probate, and federal transfer taxation. The course does not refer to any one state's laws but, rather, to uniform codes such as the Uniform Probate Code and the Uniform Trust Code. Success in the course requires careful preparation for each class and meaningful participation in class discussion. Assigned readings consist of a near-final draft of a new trusts & estates text that the course instructor is co-authoring for publication in December 2017. Computers, cell phones, iPads, and similar devices are prohibited in the classroom.
