Course Description
This course will cover mental health law in the civil context, from involuntary commitment to the right to treatment and the right to refuse treatment. It will examine the evolving law of health care parity and how it has been affected by the Affordable Care Act. The course will also offer an overview of mental health issues in the criminal justice system, including competence to stand trial and be executed. We will look at recent changes in concepts of competence and guardianship. Finally, the course will look at how mental health law applies in the case of children.

Short Course Attendance Policy
