Course Description
Modern communications have significantly increased the number of domestic and international situations in which legal rights and duties depend on questions of choice of law, choice of forum, enforcement of foreign judgments, and related matters. Familiarity with this material is increasingly relevant to the successful practice of law in an interstate and international setting. This course examines the choice of law rules applicable in civil cases where at least one of the operative facts in the case is connected with a state or country other than the one in which suit is brought, as well as the jurisdiction of courts over persons within and outside that state or country, forum non conveniens, contractual choice of forum and choice of law clauses, and enforcement of judgments of sister states and foreign countries.
