Course Description
This course will provide a detailed overview of how to prepare a Corporate Client for litigation, from the pre- litigation stage through the disposition of the case. Topics covered will include: forecasting and explaining to the corporate executives the Client role in discovery , depositions and trial testimony. Special emphasis will be placed on the critical aspects of counseling corporate management on what to expect during the litigation process and offering guidance on strategic developments and unexpected divergences during the case. An intended goal of the course is to teach students how to forge trusting client relationships so as to facilitate a partnership between the corporation leadership and its legal team as it develops trial evidence, makes damages evaluations , practices with "mock juries" and conducts settlement negotiations. Professional ethical issues that typically arise in these situations will be discussed. The course will include interactive workshops in which the students will practice "hands on" client preparation techniques , expert witness identification and interviews. Students will participate in simulations on advising the client during trial , and giving advice on juror perspectives and verdict potentials. This course will be helpful both to students who are interested in litigation training for corporate client representation, and to those who might want to pursue corporate management either from the business or legal perspective.

Short Course Attendance Policy Due to the small number of meetings, attendance to all meetings/classes for short courses is mandatory. Students who miss more than one class session (80 minute) of a 1-credit short course are subject to administrative withdrawal and will have a W for the course on their transcripts.
