Summer 2018
LAW897  AS  EXTERNSHIP II

Course Description
The Miami Law Externship Program provides second-year (2L) and third-year (3L) students an opportunity to gain practical legal experience by working with local, national, and international corporations (in-house legal departments or general counsel's office), government agencies, public interest organizations and the judiciary for academic credit. Students gain substantive legal experience by working under the supervision of lawyers, which is supplemented and enhanced by a corresponding academic course. Law firms, of any size, including solo practitioners, do not qualify as an externship placement for the Externship Program. The Externship Program encompasses the required field work hours at an approved externship placement AND the successful completion of an academic course to earn 3 academic credits. Externs must complete a minimum of 200 field work hours at an approved externship placement. The specifics of the academic class will be provided to enrolled students as of April 25, 2018. Students will be required to make themselves available to meet all of the class requirements of this program.
