LAW378  AW  ECONOMY AND SOCIETY: INSTITUTIONS AND NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Course Description
This course examines the ways that the economy is embedded in social networks and broader social structures and the ways in which these networks and structures affect the behavior of economic actors and the performance of different economic organizations. Key concepts to be discussed include social capital, social class, power, and rational action and its unanticipated consequences. The last section of the course will be dedicated to the analysis of social and political institutions and the ways in which they affect prospects for economic development in Third World nations and for stability and growth in advanced economies.
