Course Description
|
The primary objective of this course is to expose students to the issues involved in litigating major pro bono / public interest cases. Using the ten-year Florida Medicaid litigation as its primary case study, the course will focus on major public interest litigation as it takes place in private practice. This course also endeavors to place the skills development of litigating complex, public interest cases in conversation with commentary and critiques of public interest litigation, pro bono practice, class action jurisprudence, and other developments in civil procedure and federal courts. This course should be of interest to students interested in major public interest litigation, class action litigation, and general litigation practice (including, pre-trial motions, discovery, expert witness identification and preparation, trials), remedies, federal courts, health policy, and the relationship between litigation and the media. The course will include various simulations, and a final examination. Students can satisfy the writing requirement through this course as well. (2 credits).
