LAW606  AW  SELECT TOPICS IN ART AND MUSEUM LAW SEMINAR

Course Description
This course focuses on the complex set of federal, state, and local laws that apply to museums in the United States. Units of the course will include such topics as: obtaining and maintaining tax-exempt status; governance (i.e., duties and responsibilities of trustees); collections management (e.g., accessioning and deaccessioning, loans, insurance); and gift restrictions and their enforcement. There is no text book: the course materials include statutes, cases, scholarly articles, treaties, and other readings that will be made available in the Copy Center and posted on TWEN.
