Course Description
This course focuses on General Public International Law as well as some of its more specific topics. After a brief introduction, the course will start with an overview of the sources of International Law. In other words, what counts as international law, what doesn’t, and who is bound by such law. After covering the sources will study the subjects of international law; the both traditional ones, like states and international organizations, as well as less traditional ones, like individuals, NGOs and corporations. We will also analyze the notion of state sovereignty, its historical development, limits and legal foundations. Once we have covered sovereignty, we will study three closely related topics: the use of force and international security, the peaceful resolution of disputes, and the international responsibility of the states for breaching international law.
