Assignment:
Welcome to LComm II. I look forward to meeting and working with all of you. I have attached the materials for your first assignment. Specifically, I have attached the case file, assigning memos, and instructions for the Motion to Suppress or Opposition to Motion to Suppress. Before our first class, you should (1) read all of these materials, and (2) find and read the assigned legal authorities. Once our class roster is finalized, I will assign you to represent either the Government or the Defendant during our first class. I have also attached the relevant pages from The Handbook that you should read before our first class.
Per the University's protocols, our first class will meet on Zoom. I will provide the link on our course Blackboard page.
Material: Required:
1. The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (21st ed. 2020).
2. Jill Barton and Rachel Smith, The Handbook for the New Legal Writer (2d ed. 2019).
Recommended:
1. Antonin Scalia and Bryan A. Garner, Making Your Case: The Art of Persuading Judges (2008).
2. Ross Guberman, Point Made: How to Write Like the Nation’s Top Advocates (2d ed. 2014).
3. Strunk and White, The Elements of Style.
